CAIR, May 2 - RIA Novosti. The BRICS interstate association will eventually equal the G20, this opinion was expressed by Egyptian Finance Minister Mohamed Maait in an interview with RIA Novosti.
"This group includes a number of countries with common goals and has a strong economy and a large population..... BRICS has a great future, it has an important place in the world, and will eventually equal the G20, which started as well and then grew," the minister said.
He noted that the New BRICS Development Bank, which Egypt joined earlier, "will provide financing for infrastructure projects."
In April, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said that the United States and other Western states are increasingly worried about the BRICS countries' work to develop their own financial mechanisms, as they understand that this "will put under serious question those mechanisms of globalization that are currently functioning under the West."
Earlier in April, Brazilian Finance Minister Fernando Addad told RIA Novosti that he allows the use of local currencies for intra-BRICS trade and is actively discussing these possibilities at the moment.
The head of the Bank of Russia, Elvira Nabiullina, also stated that the dollar and the euro are no longer the main currencies in Russia's foreign trade, and that two-thirds of export and import settlements are made in national currencies. She noted that there is still a lot of work to be done with Russia's key partners as part of its BRICS chairmanship this year.
On January 1, 2024, Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa were joined as new full BRICS members by Egypt, Ethiopia, Iran, Saudi Arabia, UAE and Egypt.
